24H Series - Spa 12hr - 2026
Optimum Motorsport delivered a flawless performance to secure victory at the Michelin 12H Spa-Francorchamps, with Salman Owega, Freddie Tomlinson, and Harry George converting pole position into a controlled and commanding win in their McLaren 720S GT3 EVO. After leading at the halfway intervention point on Saturday, the team maintained its advantage through to Sunday, ultimately finishing 52 seconds clear despite challenging wet conditions in the final hour. Owega praised both the team and the car on his debut weekend with McLaren, while George expressed his delight after a last-minute call-up to race.
The race itself was packed with action from the start, featuring multiple lead changes and interruptions due to Code 60 periods. Early leaders included competitors from GetSpeed, Proton Competition, and Comtoyou Racing, while Herberth Motorsport briefly held the advantage before suffering a setback. Optimum regained control before the overnight break, ahead of strong competition from HAAS RT and Aston Martin entries. Drama struck before Sunday’s restart when a leading Aston Martin retired due to a mechanical issue, reshuffling the fight at the front.
On Sunday, Optimum continued to manage the race effectively, fending off pressure from HAAS RT’s Audis. Changing weather conditions added further complexity, with rain arriving in the closing stages and causing several incidents, including spins and off-track moments for key contenders. Despite tricky conditions, the McLaren team executed a well-timed switch to wet tyres, allowing Owega to comfortably secure victory.
One of the most dramatic moments came in the PRO-AM class battle between Yannick Redant’s Mercedes and Manuel Lauck’s Proton Porsche. The two fought intensely in the wet, making contact multiple times. Although Redant initially crossed the line ahead, a 20-second penalty for causing a collision handed the class victory to Lauck and his teammates.
Behind the overall winner, HAAS RT secured a strong result, including a GT3 AM class victory, while GetSpeed completed the podium positions. Other class winners included Mühlner Motorsport in the 992 category, QMMF by HRT in 992-AM, Vortex in GTX, and Not Only Motorsport in TCE-TCX, rounding out a highly competitive and dramatic endurance race weekend at Spa.
